Italian Freight Forwarding: Managing Air Cross Trade from China to Europe During Corporate Shutdowns

Like leaving your house keys with a trusted neighbor: your logistics keep moving even while you are on vacation

Summer closures or winter breaks don’t matter: global markets never stop. For any business, being able to go on holiday knowing that your trade flows continue to run at full speed offers the ultimate peace of mind.

This is exactly what we achieved when managing a complex Cross Trade (foreign-to-foreign) air freight shipment from China to Belgium, handled entirely during the summer closure of our Italian client.

As an international freight forwarder based in Italy, we stepped in as that trusted neighbor, coordinating every phase of the logistics as the sole point of contact, without the cargo ever physically entering Italy.

The Anatomy of a 4-Party Cross Trade Operation

Cross Trade is one of the most delicate operations in the logistics sector, especially when the supply chain connects four international players in different countries:

[Chinese Manufacturer] ➔ [Italian Client] ➔ [Spanish Retailer] ➔ [Belgian End-Customer]
  • The Chinese manufacturer produced the goods (two pallets of premium paper shopping bags) on behalf of our Italian client.

  • The Italian client sold the goods to their retailer in Spain.

  • The Spanish retailer needed to deliver the cargo directly to the final customer in Belgium.

  • Asian Logistics, operating from Italy, orchestrated the entire air and road transport flow.

Commercial Protection & Document Neutralization (Blind Shipping)

When managing a four-party triangular shipment, commercial confidentiality is everything. The identities of the manufacturer and the final customer must remain fully protected to safeguard our client’s business margins and trade relationships.

Thanks to our global network of trusted partners, we guaranteed total document neutralization. By managing sensitive paperwork internally (such as the Switch Air Waybill), we ensured that the respective suppliers and clients remained anonymous to one another, completely securing our client’s commercial positioning.

Routing Strategy: Flights to Amsterdam and Onward via Road Freight

To maximize transit times and optimize the costs of this import from China, our air freight specialists did not choose a direct flight to Belgium or Italy. Instead, they opted for a transit via Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS).

Choosing Europe’s largest cargo hub offered two distinct strategic advantages:

  • Maximum Flight Availability: A wide choice of cargo routes from China, eliminating the risks of operational downtime or seasonal delays.

  • Streamlined Fiscal Representation: Amsterdam Airport offers smooth customs clearance procedures via fiscal representation. This allowed the Italian client to import directly into another EU Member State, before moving the goods safely via truck (bonded road freight) to its final destination in Belgium.

“Returning the Keys” for a Hassle-Free Return

When the client’s offices reopened, we “returned the house keys.” The merchandise had already been delivered in perfect condition to the final destination in Belgium, all trade secrets were safe, and the company was able to enjoy their holidays with zero worries.

Managing projects of this complexity requires a bird’s-eye view, flawless preparation, and a reliable network of global partners.
