Made in Italy wine exports
In recent years, Made in Italy wine has confirmed its position of excellence in international markets, recording consistent export growth.
According to data provided by Sace (the Italian Export Credit Agency), Italy is the second largest wine exporter, holding a 20.9% share of the global export value, after France (32.8%) and ahead of Spain (8.1%). Among regional productions, Veneto wines are the most requested abroad (36.3% of Italian exports), followed by Piedmont (15.6%) and Tuscany (15.2%).
For the next three years, Italian wine exports are expected to grow at an average annual rate of 2.9%, reaching €8.5 billion by 2026. In 2023, our wine exports reached a value of €7.8 billion, an increase of 20.8% compared to 2019, and represented more than 20% of our food and beverage sales abroad.
Positive news for Italian wine exports also comes from the demand of foreign consumers: a general increase in wine consumption (+2.3%) is anticipated for this year and the next. On one hand, the importance of geographies where Italian presence is already strong – primarily the USA, the United Kingdom, and Germany – is confirmed; on the other hand, countries such as Japan, China, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates are increasingly emerging as markets of opportunity.(sace.it)
Case history: air freight shipment of wine from Italy to China
Recently, we arranged an air shipment of wine committed directly by our Chinese client, a trading company located in Guangdong Province.
For this particular transportation, we advised our client to use a thermal blanket to better preserve and maintain the wine’s quality, as an alternative to the more expensive reefer transport.
Thus, after sending the thermal blanket to the storage facility of the winery in the Treviso area, the supplier wrapped the wine pallet to ensure thermal insulation from the moment of pickup.
The shipment was destined for Guangzhou Airport, under CPT terms.

Communication with the client in Chinese language
The presence of our Chinese-speaking staff in the Asian Logistics offices allowed a smoother and fair communication with our Chinese client, while also creating greater empathy with him.
What Italian exporters need to know before shipping wine to China: GACC registration
GACC registration (General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China) is a requirement regarding the export of food & beverage products to China.
The GACC establishes a series of strict regulatory requirements that non-Chinese companies must meet to export their products to China. These requirements range from food safety to environmental compliance and can vary depending on the type of product.
This means that a producer wishing to export some of their products to China must proceed with the registration of their company and the products to be exported on the CIFER portal, owned by the GACC.
