Italian railway transport under ongoing construction!

Railway interruptions  throughout the Genoa node from the end of July

The railway capacity at the Port of Genoa is facing significant limitations due to ongoing works on the line as part of the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Starting from late July, many carriers will be suspending rail connections in the Fast Corridor to the inland terminals in order to manage the backlog.

The peak impact is expected to occur in August when work will begin on the quadrupling of the Sommergibile line and the Torbella junction, which will notably affect the operations of the PSA Pra’ Terminal in Genoa.

Train services to Genoa Marittima will be suspended, and freight services affecting Voltri and Savona will be canceled, or, in the best-case scenario, rerouted to San Giuseppe di Cairo when possible. The Fegino Junction will also be affected by these reroutings.

According to RFI’s timeline, the interventions in the Genoa node included in this phase of work are expected to conclude by the end of the work week ending September 13.

Due to these exceptional circumstances, intermodal services to/from Genoa will face limitations and may be partially or completely replaced by a fully truck-based service.

Costs and current routes may vary to adapt to the new situation.
